my new 220 gallon reef tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That was a steal of a deal for the price you picked it up for. The only thing I would add would be a ton more sand to increase the effectiveness of the dsb. I am a serious advocate of letting a nice sized dsb naturally doing the work for you. You dsb is adequate, but a bigger dsb is better in my humble opinion. Also... please put a nice large lionfish in your reef. They are reef safe. They are just not small fish and invert safe.

Post where your at...I want to see where this is going. Cant wait to get my 125 the way I want it so I can show it off around here.

Update us?

I think you'll loose the blue linkia star, the little amount of rock you have doesn't look to have any life growing on it. while you do have a suitible tank size to keep one as healthy as can be kept, it's far too soon for one.

Also, I see you have a peg urchin and Turbo snails, both are direct competitors and will far outpace the blue star.

It's a great start. I'm actually tearing down my 220 tank today because I cannot afford to do it the way I feel nessescary. I'll live vicariously through your photos if you'll post more. ;)

Inverts are a pretty big part of a reef. Also, try keeping one without the use of inverts or small fish like wrasses to maintain your tank. Its not easy. Sooner or later you get an aptasia problem or something else, but you cant fix it because biological controls are food.

I had a lionfish, wanted one all my life and finally got it a couple years back. Put him in a predatory reef. When he died, I was so heartbroken that it made me realize that what had been stopping my reef from truely being all it could be was because I was fighting problems that I should have had biological control for. Gave away my grouper, and got my tank back on track.

You can put one in if you want. It can just be tricksy. Great fish though.

real nice setup i have a 90 going right now we're moving or id have the 180 up but still real nice
