Hey everyone,

This is going to be a fun one! Just got this thing tonight:

72x30x24". About 225 gallons. I'll do a nice build thread on it in the future but for now it's all about filtration. It came with a nice big wet/dry plumbed for an external pump and no pump. :)

I'm thinking a reeflo dart? Anyone suggest anything else? It needs to be quiet and reliable and I'm willing to pay a little extra for that. The overflow is drilled in the center and I believe it's plumbed for dual returns but I haven't looked at it a whole lot. This was very last minute before I go on a three week vacation.

Thanks! Stay tuned for a nice 3D background and LED light install (on a different thread). ;)

I have a 225 as well. I run a Wave 1/15hp pump @3000 gph close loop with a bead filter.

Can you post some pictures of your plumbing kendragon? Are you running a sump as well or just bead filter? Do you have a backup canister or anything?

Running no sump. I have a canister but I do not have a cartridge in it because it didn't need it.
Bead filter with K1 type media.

My latest creation. No canister filter. Glass media is mechanical and bio. Backwashes is a minute.

So what would you recommend after running all these different setups yourself?

Since my tank came a sump and I'd like the extra water capacity, could I run a sump from the tank overflow with some mechnical filtration, then run the pump out of that, then run to the smallest Ultima model and back to the tank? How would I plumb a UV into that exactly if I wanted to?

Hey kendragon if you dont mind me asking how much did your setup in the second pic with the small pool filter and pump attached to the pump cost you??

I just would love a backwash option. I hate cleaning canisters. Filter socks are fine as long as the sump is easily reached.

I prefer the glass filter because it removes particulates without the clogging back pressure and the ease of backwashing.
You can run a sump/pump/Ultima/UV in that order but I find most overflow box does not deliver enough water to the sump with a high flow rate pump which is what I like. Also keep in mind that the Ultima may need backwashing and with a gravity system, the sump will run dry before the Ultima is completely clean. Closed loop systems will not have this problem.

pm me for price.

ken is that the ultima 1000 filter in the second pic? Was thinking of running one on my 180.

Second pic is a filter not available on the market yet. I'm very happy with both filters but I believe the second one will give me better color and size on my cichlas.
Hey I'm from Pearl City and a U of H grad. Love the slowpoke life style on the island.
