My New 225 Gallon! Need PUMP Recommendation/Advice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I realized my sump is drilled in three places because a protein skimmer was hooked up in its previous life as a reef tank. So I could put a pump out of one end and loop the bead filter back into the sump? And then pump out water on the other end with a different pump to return to the tank? There's only one overflow in the tank with a single hole drilled in the bottom... Sorry for the questions, this complicated plumbing stuff is something I haven't messed with too much.

Running two pumps $$$$$
Low gph return = Low flow to sump = lotsa poop in a big tank. So add a powerhead to stir poop up = $$$$$
If you want to keep the sump, I would drill another hole in the tank to deliver more water to the sump. Some people cut the teeth on the overflow.
PS your idea above still doesn't address the lack of water for backwashing the Ultima.

ken can you give me some info on your set up, ie. filter, filter cost, water pump, how much energy does it use etc. Im in need of an upgraded filter and easier way to clean the tank. Right now im currently looking into getting a bead filter or eheim canister. Thanks for the info, btw your bahias are pretty nice.

on my 225 which btw is the same size as your orange, i will be drilling the back of the tank in 4 locations. 2 towards the bottom and 2 more half way up towards the sides. They will flow to my sequence 3600 pump and that will flow to the ultima 1000 i have. On the return i will have it T off and go through 2 nu clear cannister filters and a uv before returning to the tank.
