My new 2600 gallon plywood tank project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good news: Back seam is 100% solid and no longer leaking

Bad news: The one area that I was not able to build up with epoxy and fiberglass is now leaking.

That's right you guessed it. Under the windows is now leaking. Very small leak after fully filled in the front of the tank in the middle of the center window.

I guess this doesn't shock me either. And, I guess I should be happy about this because now I can remove the windows again and make sure the seams under there are strong enough to withstand the pressure and I will not have to worry about them in the future. (At least that is what I need to tell my self to keep me from quitting)

Someone please tell me why I am still building this tank? lol

So my latest new timeline is as follows:
Tomorrow order some more Max ACR epoxy and Dow 795
This weekend I will remove the windows and prep the area for fiberglass and epoxy.
Epoxy will arrive by next Friday the 2nd.
Saturday December 3rd apply epoxy and fiberglass.
Sunday December 4th final coats of epoxy.
Wednesday December 7th install windows.
Leak test December 21st.
Install background December 23rd.

With any luck by christmas the tank will be up and running.

You are building this for one reason ... to keep me happy!

Keep up the good work

love this build

Best of luck to you. You're almost there. We are here...we are waiting...sorry just finished a transformers movie marathon.:D

I joined this forum to learn about DYI plywood builds. This is the first thread I have read, and all I can say is wow! You mentioned recapping this in a PDF, will that be avaliable to us? Thanks for your great documentation, you sir are dedicated to your hobby like noone I have ever heard of! Good luck on the final stages of the project!

Won't be ready for fish for at least a month but I will keep it in mind.

Windows are out and I have found the leak. Once again bondo failures.

Decided I am going to cut out all of the front plywood as well as scrape the bottom 6-8" to get rid as much bondo as possible in the front area.

Then replace the plywood and seal with the epoxy & fiberglass.

No pictures for a while as it's the same old crap as before. lol
