My new 400 gallons tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
pretty sure eventually they'll need even bigger pond dimensions than that, as they grow.
nice looking rays, hope the best on your cycling. you should try the fishless cycle method next time. much safer and it goes fairly quick.

Vodka or other carbon based cycling method. Alternatives are vinegar, sugar, or any combination of the three. This will create a nitrifying bloom of bacteria that will quickly establish a tank. Then do a water change to create equilibrium and get rid of the excess bacteria in the water column. Enough bacteria will remain and be established in the filtration system and overall tank. Can be done with fish in the tank-carefully- or better before anything is added. I used this method to keep my saltwater reef spotlessly clean even while it was fully established. The excess bacteria would consume phosphate and nitrates and become skimmable- great but dangerous way to keep the water spotless!

Research first- it's tricky but works well. Another simple method- put in plants. They cycle the aquarium, create bioload and take up nutrients. The rays will eventually eat them. My 1700 gallon is mostly filtered with plants!

turn your lights off and it will clear your water up too.

That might be the only problem good luck nice stock and nice tanks.

much agreed.. BD reaches 3' easily.. But unlikely in captivity.. Good luck with ur BD.. Pretty guys

Nice rays you've gotten, I can live with the cloudy water, of course as a preference clear water rules hands down. Will run my itchy fingers on nh3 level for me, nice fishes you're housing. Have fun

Now i am planning a 8' x 3'or4' x 2.5'(H) for the new ray. If everything goes well I will bring in more ray. Target to achieve 20rays.

Hi Energy, can post some photo of your 1700gallon tank or pond and the plant filter. Plan to make a new pond outside. currently one is too small and the filtration system is bad.IMG_0011a.jpgIMG_0008a.jpg

Click the link in my signature to find out more. Lets take a look at your pond- I see algae which means excess nutrients. Either put some plants in the water or on the waters edge so their roots can take up the excess nutrients from the water column. Hydroponic plant growth using your aquarium water. Plants do an amazing job to keep the water stabile and clear Plus they will out compete the algae. REALLY SIMPLE RULE: If you have algae-you don't have enough other plants.
