My new 46 gallon bowfront!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes water changes will help a lot. When you will it back up have someone hold a plate under the water going into the tank so it doesnt kick up the sand as bad.

It could be a day or so before its clearer and maybe a few before its normal, and fish can survive when rivers and such are muddy but i would get the water as clean as i can before i add the fish.

Hope this helps,
Ryan

I'd do a 100% water change. While the tank is draining, continuously keep stirring up the sand with your hand. Hopefully that'll get rid of the cloudiness. Otherwise, it will take a while to go away on its own.

Not fully done with the water change but i drained the tank to about 50 pct then started filling up with new water, as previously stated so the water does not disrupt the sand. I used my hand :P.

Well its looking alot better now, and hopefully by the time i fill it up all the way its better... i figure i still have 15 gallons to go, maybe a bit less!

Well it has now been 2 weeks since i got my tank, and around a week with the sand put in. Time sure flies!

Im loving how the tank is looking now, and the cloudiness of the sand was practically gone by the next morning. Im going to be posting a video in a little bit showing the fish, as its really hard to capture them on a cellphone camera that doesnt have a fast shutter speed.

Stock now is:
2 Geo's (Surinamensis) about 2"
2 clown loaches about 1 1/4"
Tiger Oscar about 2 1/2-3 "

The geos and oscar eat mostly pelletes, and the loaches eat flakes. I'm starting to feed them frozen bloodworms now about 2-3 times a week(1 meal each time).

No background yet, but im wondering wether a black background would make the colors of the fish stand out more. Since i put the sand in it's like the fish try to camouflage themselves to it.

Well heres a pic, video to come!

But please, why even post if that all you got to say, its like every single thread i see some idiot comes along and has to act cocky and say that tanks too small for the fish...

that is a really pretty oscar. has pelvic fins like my red. Love them going into a point like that! Can't wait to see it start to color out. Have seen tons like that at petsmart lately. cute little buggers.

Just wouldn't want to see another oscars health being compromised because of someone's ignorance.
