I just recently (Two weeks ago) bought a brand new glass 55 gallon tank. Its been sitting on a sturdy made for a 75 stand. I was gone for 3 days and I came back and noticed a hair sized crack about 2 1/2 inch long at the front of the tank on the farr up right next to the trim. It is not a complete puncture all the way through its only on the inside. What should I do? Is there an easy fix or am I totalled ****ed ???? PLEASE HELP:)

try returning it if you bought it brand new, it should have a warrenty

damn I was worried about this I did buy it brand new its gonna be a huggeee pain in the ass to return it as its setup and running :( :(

Whats likely to happen with this hairline crack if I keep using the tank . Its not leaking any water

had to be a reason it cracked, I would figure that out as well, stand not level?

make sure its a crack and not glue, sometimes glue strings get on the glass when they seal the tank.

id call them first and talk to the manager once you verify it is indeed a crack. they should replace it for you.

If the crack continues down, you risk an eventual blow out which would be an even greater pain in the ... I would try to return it if it was under warranty, you could always buy some rubber maid garbage pails to hold your fish until a new tank is up and running. You could keep your filters running this way as well and keep the media cycled.

If it really turns out to be a crack and you can't return the tank then you may have to put a small glass plate over the crack and silcone it into place. I did this with the bottom of my sump and it works well. Hasn't leaked in 2 years (fingers crossed). My 270g had it's bottom severely cracked (by the previous store owner) and instead of replacing it, he siliconed a new bottom pane on top of the old one. Hasn't leaked in 5 years. If your tank has no overflow or isn't drilled, you could patch it and turn it around so the cracked glass is on the back side.

But your best option is to return it under warranty. Then you don't have to worry about it.
