Hello, all my new 9'' fire eel will not eat. I have had him for a week now. I've tried raw hotdogs, scallops, flakes, and pellets, and feeders. What should I do?

Ok I'll try live blood worms. Can I get him to eat market shrimp?titanfish;2576449; said:all the foods u have mentioned above, a 9'' fire eel will not take those foods.
i had a similar problem at first. try some live river shrimp or worms, give it some time, eels sometimes take time to acclimatize, but also give it a nice hiding place it will feel less stressed, also try some live blood worms

Ok I will do that. I did that with my 2'' fire eel and he loved it.titanfish;2576544; said:cut the shrimp into elongated pieces then give it a wriggle like imitating a worm, the eel will take. eels build trust with their owners, it will soon start associating you with food once it eats, then you can regularly hand feed it
Ok I'll try some of these to,.Bderick67;2576771; said:Try earthworms/nightcrawlers. Most can't resist. careful though they can get to the point of only wanting to eat the worms.
