My new addition......but????

Getting 50/50 feed back here as i thought i would, the reason i put up a poll, the poll is 75% to keep it as it will be fine.
I know its my call on what to do in the end but i just want the best for my fish.
I can go to 4 foot high, and i will have to see about maybe nearer to 12 long but the depth which i need to go deeper can t be done.

I will think on this today about sellin git asap and getting a TSN which was the first plan.

Thanks all for the feed back.

Thought about it and as a few have said in this size tank i will be giving it a much better life than most people can, not many tanks about that can home a 3 maybe 4 foot fish.

My god i forgot how they eat, this little one is as fat as a pig, dont see him all that much in the day but at nite he has a feeding frenzy i think, i have stopped leaving the few bits of prawn etc that i feed the fish ( rays ) at night as the ones they dont get to the cat does and in the morning its so stuffed it worryed me the other day, soon digested it though by that evening.

He's a little beauty mate, looks really healthy.

I had mine in a 9x5x3 pond so just 1ft narrower than you want to build and he was perfectly happy in there. As i said on your other thread, growth from 3 to 18 inches took just a couple of months (mine was a pig too) but after that it slowed right down and 18" to 24" took about a year.

I had a tsn with him too, they both got on really well and there was never a space issue for them. As a previous poster said, in captivity they'll probably never get much larger than 3ft anyway so you're not going to have any issues. If you want to get a tsn too, just be aware that i found that 9 times out of 10 that if a fish 'vanished' during the night then it would be the tsn that ate it.

See if you can start holding the prawns near him for him to eat, have him coming up to eat from your hand in no time.

10x6x3 ..... with adequate filtration and WC's is acceptable.
Expect 48" and 25-30 pounds in about 3 -4 years.

Now i dont leave any food after the evening feed i use the tongs i use for the rays and feed him with themas i thought he looked a bit over fed some mornings, only a wee chap but he near gets the tongs in his mouth he gets that excited. I keep trying to persuade him off his leave but no luck as yet.
All he does is sit in the plants, well on the leafs and doesnt move untill lights out.
I wouldnt mind a TSN aswell but with the rays and other fish i want like an arowana and a few other big fish it mite be a bit crowded.

Oh and going 4 foot high now witht he build:)

ur hybrid would eat the aro easy, had a 6incher eat a 9inch aro, just beware

Shame about the aro as thats also a fish i have always wanted to keep, but dont want the risk of it getting on the nighttime menu.

What can you suggest for me to look at for tank mates for this tank and the 2 Motoro rays and the hybrid, i like the idea now of also a TSN

Other large cats, pacus, peacock bass... umm other rays, I forget ur dimensions but a little bigget pond could accommodate an arapaima.

I have decided to get a TSN anyway as i have been told by many they will all live together in harmony ( tsnxrt and the rays) I only want the 2 rays realy and pacus....not sure on them, can be ugly buggers LOL.

Now peacock bass......possibly.

More to the point is on the size of tank mates, from what folk say i cant have elongated mates, aro, gars etc, bummer as i love them to.

And the tank is going to be between 1200g and 1500g (UK) which is 10 x 6 x 3 (4) or 12 x 6 x 4.......ish.

I have an oscar and silver dollars with 2 5-6 inch severums but they will be going as they are to small, well will be. Thats not to be live bait.

ur oscar may be okay, ive seen guys keep oscars with big cats as long as the oscars are big and the cats grow up with them... pacus are a little ugly but they add depth to you tank, your cats and rays will be hanging out at the bottom most of the time so youll want something that hangs out in the mid range of the tank as well, and a well taken care of pacu can look just as pretty as a large cat.
