My New Babies~

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Went out to buy airpump to replace the faulty one at home. Ended up getting these 2 Orino.... If you see the picture you will know why I cannot stop getting them.:(

They are trying out pellet immediately in tank. It's a bit skinny now and hopefully they will take pellet willingly 100% so that will put on more mass by the next update.

That's the only piece with big spots in the tank. Grab them as soon they touches their display tank.

Currently they are been housed in their grow up tank. No FTS though. Water change once every 3 days of 50% and filtration is running on an overhead stackable filter with lotsa mature media in there. But will show FTS once they are shifted to their 6 footer tank.;)

I was intending to put in EE initially but there's no stock available at any LFS near my house. But manage to grab some today.

Nice pickups. I wished I could pick up nice cichla like that at my lfs everyday. lol. But now is it me or does the 2nd picture look like a brokopondo?

What's a brokopondo? It was sold as orino to me.

They're known as Cichla cf. Ocellaris Brokopondo. They come from a reservoir in the country Suriname. They have markings that look a lot like orinos when young. One particular thing about the 2nd fish in the photo is that the horizontal line goes through its tail. Below are some examples of brokopondo juveniles.

I got this question... Why is it some of my orino in my grow up tank are orangish in colour?... I'm using white light only for this tank. Diet is the same for all the bass in there as well. In fact the kelberi are eating even more than these orino yet they are still golden in colour.

Heavy filtration and doing 50% water change every 2 days. As the 6 footer is still under maintaince, only after I shifted the existing monsters out then these bass will be shifted int it.:D
