i thought black arowana are suppose to be darker? Is there two different kind of black arowana or are all them the same just lighting are different? there is a black arowana at my lfs and that one is black black, even the eyes are black is it because it wild maybe? sorry still learning

Don't know if I've ever seen a "Black Black" arowana. Most blacks that I've seen have a black sheen while young which eventually turns into a blue sheen when it gets bigger. Other than the black on the tail, it should look like a silver with, as I've said before, a black sheen. This sheen of course depends on the fish and the lighting so it varies.

Very nice aro, but just a quick question about the black aros. I only see them sold in about 12" sizes. Why aren't they sold as babies like the silvers? Does nobody breed them and they are all wild caught? If they are all wildcaught wouldnt that mean they are extremely aggressive then, since for a slower growing aro to survive in the wild they would have to compete extra hard for food, just to end up smaller than silvers right?

I am confused as to where the black aro's come from, are they just more delicate and shipped later in life to avoid a high DOA rate?

Beautiful fish and setup, I am green with envy.

As far as I know, PoopSmart, all black arowanas are wild caught. Every once and a while I'll find a little baby in the lfs, but they never seem to last at such small sizes. I saw one with the sac still fully intact...that lived about a day or two.

Thanks for all of the comments guys. I'll get a full tank shot soon.

Was it a baby? The juvenile black arowanas are black.
