Yeah that or separate them for a bit until you fatten up your Bichir.

I feed mine frozen bloodworms, beefheart, and chopped up earthworms. I just recently started feeding them shrimp pellets. They'll try anything though! Mine seem to like tearing up the algae wafers that I put in for the snails and livebearers!
Oh, and they also like bugs that sink to the bottom.
