Its about 1 foot maybe a bit more. I've been givin him pretreated guppies, food sticks and krill. I've actually been a bit nervous because he never eats in front of me, but my girlfriend (who is considerably smaller and lesss threatening than me) said she fed and watched him take krill and sticks yesterday while she was home. I've only had him about two weeks and I'm pretty sure they get the same size as silvers, just very different markings as juvies and slightly differet markigs as adults. His scales seem to be very blue I comparison to a silver. He has never appeared skinny or ill, but he won't eat in front of me. I must freak him out. I've actually put krill in the tank and he won't hit it right away, I walk out the room and come back a few minutes later and it will all be gone. I'm actually very relieved to hear that he ate in front of her.

You should get him use to eating in front of you. Whatever you feed it, don't let it eat off the bottom. I had a 14" black arowana too. I did the same exact thing you did, let the food sit and walk away come back and the food is gone. I thought that black arowanas couldn't develop DE so I didn't care. Well, a few months later it developed DE in the left eye. I am 100% sure it was from bottom feeding because there was no other factors: no injuries to the head/eye from jumping.
