My new Black Arowanna

He looks great man. Before you know it, he will be smashing the food right in front of you. It the mean time, just turn the lights off in the room and watch him from a distance in the room, and I'm sure you'll see him eat.

You should get him use to eating in front of you. Whatever you feed it, don't let it eat off the bottom. I had a 14" black arowana too. I did the same exact thing you did, let the food sit and walk away come back and the food is gone. I thought that black arowanas couldn't develop DE so I didn't care. Well, a few months later it developed DE in the left eye. I am 100% sure it was from bottom feeding because there was no other factors: no injuries to the head/eye from jumping.

I have A group of 6 Geophagus neambi, a flagtail, a sturio catfish and various loricaria in their w/ him. Its a tall tank and I've never seen him go down there at all. The other fish would make quick work of anything that fell down there I think.
