My New Blood Parrot???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lol it's not some mystery. Google "how to make a blood parrot". You don't need to go see some monk at the top of the mountain to make a blood parrot. They're made mostly in Taiwan and they're created through line breeding and hybridizing of Midas, red devils, red heads, sevrums, and firemouths. They are then extensively culled so that only the ones with a curved spine hit the market. In most cases, the original male was a Midas.

BP is a syn and midas thats been linebred to exhibit the bright amphilophus colouration. it's been done before by members it is not a secret anymore, for some reason those genes conflict and end up with a strange physique. if you breed a syn with a amphilophus species you will get 50-70% BP's and then 30% of fish that will look like watered down versions of either parents.

Beautiful BP I had one that was all orange like that and they turned to a pink. Nice find will be outstanding looking fish. My BP is so mild mannered its in a community tank set up with ram and angels and others. The highlight of that tank.

Both lfs here told me the bps, especially the bright red,.are their best selling fish...

I have two because the wife loves them. I didn't care for them until they grew on me.

now I love them. Fun fish...

I can tell you one was crossed with a complete badass though... He is a nasty bugger that isn't afraid to bang into the big bichirs that get into his pit. They take the abuse...no problem

my old (infertile) pair used to turn pink when they were in spawning mode

OMG people, omg. It's not that complicated.

BPs are hybrids. Of what, no one knows except those involved in their breeding and whomever chose to tell. However somewhere along the line they were labeled as Cit x Syn (or at least descendants thereof), but it was never proven that that is exactly how they were produced.

The Cit x Syn cross in the Hybrids section produced things very similar to BPs, but it is not concrete evidence. Who knows if it wasn't some other sort of Amphilophus x Paraneetroplus, or a large combination of those.

Well I like him...regardless if he is a pure bred or Hybrid or what ever...His shape is impeccable and he seems to be enjoying his new habitat...Thanks for the Help...
