I just got my new collection of bichirs.

These guys are very special because they are actually from Nile river system, which is the type location of Polypterus bichir.

I also got some dead specimens too for future research about their genetic diversity between populations so hope they can become a rozeta stone for my future research!

Fantastic, those are some fine looking specimines you have there! it is so cool to see wild caught fish, as in my experience they can behave completley differently form captibve bred fish. I wish you good luck on your research!

Some detail shots of P. senegalus "Sobat River"

I used to think there are two major populations of P. senegalus in Africa, the one from west africa and other from east africa due to differences between Nigerian senegalus and the one from Turkana (which was only eastern african population that introduced to hobby till now)

But this "Sobat River" specimens, which is also a Eastern african population has pretty big differences with the one from Turkana.
Seems they do grow large as Turkana but their head is more round (There are some influence of sexual dimorphism but they still do look different after that) and the scale looks a lot smoother so I guess there might be the third major population we haven't noticed till now in Nile river system.

These are still young specimens so I need to keep watching but I'm really wondering how they will grow up!

I also got some dead specimens of them too for further study especially genetic analysis.

Hope I can get some new data from them soon!
