My New Cichla

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Singapore yes? I have seen (not in person of course) mixed breeds from Sing. Mono/Ocell/ Orino seem to be common there. But don't you guys also have tem's in your waterways?
Don't know how reliable the webpage is, But Puerto Rico's Cichla looks like Nigromaculata's.

Distribution: The Peacock Cichlid, also called the Peacock Bass, Butterfly Peacock Bass, or Eye Spot Cichlid, was described by Block and Scneider in 1801. They are found in South America in almost all the large waterways of Venezuela, Guyana, Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia; from the Marowijne drainage, Suriname and French Guiana all the way to the Essequibo drainage in Guyana. They live in large bodies of water where they feed on small fish, especially threadfin shad, mosquito fish, tilapia and bluegill.
These fish are also raised in ponds as a food fish. They have been introduced (non-native) into waters of Florida and Hawaii in the United States, Guam, the Virgin Islands, Malaysia, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Puerto Rico, and Singapore. Their legal introduction as a gaming fish into modified canals and lakes in southern Florida has been quite beneficial, increasing the numbers of the Largemouth Bass and Redear Sunfish for gaming. However their introduction into Lake Gutan in Panama produced undesirable results, drastically changing the composition of fish populations in that canal.

Thanks for your reply Cichla Legend :)

Those cichla look really good. I wouldn't mind keeping a couple to see how they turn out. Please keep us up dated on these Cichla from Sing.

Yeah would love to if i could :)

Hahaha....far from being a legend. There are many people here that paved the road for us to walk on in the cichla community. Just a enthusiast in aquatics and Cichla is always on my menu.

whoa which shop did u get from tat $10 pb?would love to fish more in Sing. Can pm me good spots?

Dead food?... It took me about 2-3 weeks to get my Mono Pbass eating pellets. He wouldn't touch them at first and watched the other fish eat them. So I feed him peas initially which he loved. Then I'd break up a large hikari gold pellet and shove it in the peas and drop those in and he'd chomp those down. I do believe eventually he caught on and realized the pellets were in there and didn't snap them up as quickly but realize he liked the taste. Then I just started dropping the pellets in by themselves and after the first time he snapped one off the surface he's eaten them ever since. He's actually quite picky. He won't eat certain foods my Oscar loves, like crickets for instance. Loves his pellets though.
