Gorgeous! Gotta love them Tapajos pikes! They are slender most of their lives though, so no worries about fattening it up too much! Looking grrreat already! Pretty close to the change over as well!
I'm just curious, what does this change over involve? Also, you may notice that the pike has some kind of blue marking under its eyes. I've just always wondered what it was about.
Well, generally it will get more red overall, get some orangish coloration. The blue is most likely part of this color change as well. It should darken up to be a blackish color when it is done. A lot of the Lugubris pikes get these 'tear drop' pattern under their eye. Nothing really to be concerned about... Looking great so far man! Keep it coming along!!
Those pikes you are talking about are probably Essox and the like....not the South American pikes we talk about in here...Crenicichla..... Totally different fish. So yeah, they are much more attractive. Still just as predatory though!
Hey Peanut, you don't think it's a cobra.....look at the first picture, you can still see some of the Juvi patterns, looks like a cobra pattern doesn't it, or do Tapajo's have those markings when younger too?
tapajos I and tapajos II look pretty similar practically until they are adults... There aren't very many male pictures though, so its possible its still a cobra....
okay, now im confused......Are cobra's considered tapajo's? Or is a Cobra a completely different pike.....Does this mean that Tapajo's have similar patterns to a cobra when young? I've never seen Juvi's of Tapajo's, only sub adult and adult.....Man, i think I just hurt my head.
