nice looking fish! I jsut bought some to growout.

Cubans are great fish. I have a pair in a 125 with a couple motags. The Cubans are a lot more agressive. I may have to start thinking about getting them their own tank.

Hi Dave :)

Nice pickup. Soon as I saw the ad for this I was very surprised, haven't seen a reasonably sized Cuban for sale over here before. My friends not impressed because he's growing out 2" juveniles, lol.

Hey Japes

I jumped on this guy because as you say you don't see them at a reasonable size anywhere around here. Iwas too lazy to grow out a couple of juvies like the ones at Pet City.

i think i would call it female do to the dark coloring. nice fish though

You think it may be a female ? I was told by the seller that this was a male and took his word for it. He was with a breeding pair of Jags at the place I got him from and was apparently no trouble.
My male Salvini and female red terror are trying to intimidate him but he is just plain ignoring them thus far.

Are cuban cichlids considered rare? I've never saw one in a petstore. How much do they go for?

I don't know that they'd actually be considered "rare". You are a lot less likely to see them than you are to run across a Jack Dempsey or green terror.

Like most cichlids, tetracanthus are very willing breeders. When it comes to cichlids, what is rare today is over-running pet stores tomorrow.
