My New Cuban

You think it may be a female ? I was told by the seller that this was a male and took his word for it. He was with a breeding pair of Jags at the place I got him from and was apparently no trouble.
My male Salvini and female red terror are trying to intimidate him but he is just plain ignoring them thus far.

He looked like a male to me. Actually looks very similar to my male. I've included a picture of my pair. Easy to tell the difference when you see them together. I like actinic blue lighting. Kind of gives them a neat funky color.

I jumped on this guy because as you say you don't see them at a reasonable size anywhere around here. Iwas too lazy to grow out a couple of juvies like the ones at Pet City.

nice pick up mate. they are very rare over here at that size as well. i had a male a couple of yours ago that i grew out to 7" but unfortunately had to sell it. finally got 2 more juvi's the other day, both around 3cm.

to be honest when i first saw your photos i also thought it may be a female. they can be hard to sex unless they are in breeding dress, but to be sure i would vent it

it took me a year to find a lfs that had these. and when i did they went for $15 a piece for less than an inch... but the trip to manhatten and back also cost me a lot. annnddddd it was FREEZING walking all over the place to try and find the little store... I only bought 2 they have hated each other all there lives.. now pushing 3 inches.. one is so much darker then the other. i duno how to sex them.. any info on venting?

I've always found that the easiest way to positively sex a fish is to wait for it to lay eggs. If it lays eggs it's a female.

Nice fish, I found mine at 12" for $25. The people at the petstore that had it had no idea what it was. Its in with my 7" female festae and occasionaly chases the silver dollars around, but thats all the agression you ever see. Great fish probably one of the nicest CA's good pick up.
