My new Datnioides micolepis

I've got 7 microlepis in a 125 gallon tank with several south/central american cichlids and haven't been able to get them to swim out in the light. When the lights are on they hit the deck and turn black. I've tried leaving the lights on, with a timer, only one light (two 3 foot lights on the tank) on, with lots of hiding places, with no hiding places, and currently with some hiding places & some floating plants.

I may have to try them in a 'dark' water tank...lots of tannins in the water etc.

My guess is that your changing up the tank to much. Give them a chance to settle in before you rearrange the tank again.

I would say that they dont like being in there with the Cichlids, which is why they always hide and are unstable... I would recommend getting another tank and separating the Dats from the Cichlids.

Also 7 indos is over stocked for a 125gal + "serveral" Cichlids is just over kill....

They arent in with anything but themselves...

I have 7 in a 22gallon, to grow on, which I will sell once they are settled and beefed up a bit. As Dats are hard to find round here and I think people will snap em up pretty quick when I do put them up for sale.

The other is in a 33gallon, he is the one in the pic. The one with the pic of the dat and the oscar is an old pic, and the oscar is in the 120gal. They were together until the oscar became double his size in about two months
