black spots are called peppering. it is part of the genetic trait in pigeon bloods. you can not get rid of them 100%. by lighetening up your tank surroundings your discus peppering will be lessened but never removed. darker tank back grounds or stress will increase the peppering in your discus.

no way to get rid of peppering at all?? On of my Red Scorpions turned to a peppering all over her body over night!! I am really upset. It went from my most pretty fish to the ugliest over night. I have not done a lot of research on peppering and I really would want more information on them. The information you put above makes me really sad to see that the peppering might not go away!!

lighting and water quality play a big part in the beuty of your fish. quality food also but get your lights on a timer of at least 12/12. i do 14/10 and use a full spectrum aquarium bulb. those cheap cool white bulbs arent that good for fish. keep up with your water changes and you should be ok.

i read somewhere that peppering comes from alot of crossbreeding and imbreeding different strains. you get it alot on imports. the strains that i have top of the line and it just shows up sometimes. more or less just a genetic trait in domestic discus i guess. domestic discus are an ornamental fish just like flowerhorns. they crossbreed to get all the different color variations. its alot more common in the pigion bloods than anything else. breeders need to get more wild blood introduced into there breeding programs.
