My new Dragon Fish (Violet Goby)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you treat them as brackish, like sailfin mollies they should top out between 18-20" a little bigger full salt, no matter how you treat them they only live 5-6 years. At 18" they are still not much than an inch thick and while they will suck up baby guppies and glass shrimp they can't be considered predatious. I have kept a couple and always traded them off when I converted the tanks to predators. Most small cats and other fish love tubis, the problem is they got a bad rep from a few suppliers, black worms are the modern equivalent and in a lot of cases just as dirty at twice the cost. I used to wild catch my own.

I wrote a huge long thread about them a while back.. Don't know what happened to it. The thread title was the scientific name I believe. If you want info, go find that thread.. ;)

They are also becoming a very popular china-town food fish.. They are very cheap and ship well in little water. My exporter came to me all excited about this 'new eel' that he has available to him from Ecuador! I just laughed at him! oo0o0ooo He has Columbian Sharks available too! :)

didnt know they are saltwater fishes...
oh well, but its a cool fish.

just start with a teaspoon of salt per gallon and then work your way too full saltwater and remember it is a hobby anad not a habit...

I just have a small amount of salt in my tank to help prevent infections (1 teaspoon per 3 gallons) . Would I also beable to use blackworms instead of tubifex or will they not form a collany in the gravel?

WHEN IT GROWS IT WILL LOSE THAT COLOR AND HAVE A VERY PALE LOOKING GRAY COLOR TO IT VERY HARMLESS MINES IS 2 FEET LONG.

I have never tried to establish black worms in a tank, Haven't used them much at all, I always seemed to trade off the dragons at around 18" or so and by that time I was keeping them as brackish fish. Since tubifex worms don't do well in brackish I would add a cup or so of sand from a tidal flat every week, sucking up the old stuff first.

bro, i would love to see a pic of a 18" dragon golby, do they look nicer as they grow older? like the asin aros?

or duller as they grow older, eg the majestic shelter and the red tail cat fish..
