Well I finally did it. I went and got an EBJD and right when I seen it I knew my big oscar would gobble him up in a heartbeat. He is about 2 inches. So I went to the hardware store and got some plastic egg crate.

Like this

I then put two pieces together and overlapped them in such a way that it made the hole half the size. Because when I first tried to put it in, my EBJD swam right through it without a problem lol.

So now the holes are too small for him to squeeze through and hopefully I got a tight enough fit so that he can't squeeze through the glass and the edge. But it has been like that for a couple hours now and he has been trying to get through the whole time, so I think he's pretty much stuck. But I will be keeping a very close eye on him. He is too expensive for my oscar to eat lol.

But anyway I am very happy with my decision and I can't wait for him to get big enough to remove the divider. Which I know will be a while.

He is the most active fish I have ever seen, the ride home didn't phase him at all! Ever since I put him in the tank he has been swimming like crazy and I have even fed him already. He is eating and everything! Just like he never left the fish store. He's one tough little fish lol.

pics or it didnt happen!! be sure to keep an eye out on his poo, my little guys was very active just like yours but he still had parasites that i had to treat. its good though if he does and is still being active then you will be able to cure it no problem. GOOD LUCK

by the way what size is your tank?

I have a 125 gallon.

And I know that the little EBJDs are very prone to parasites, and I meant to ask what should I be looking for in his poop?

I'll try to get him to hold still for pics lol

look and see whether his poop is white/stringy, if it is then he most likely has parasites and you will need to treat with jungle parasite clear, but hopefully you got lucky and got a healthy one

u should get a UV sterilizer for him.

He seems very healthy and happy, he hasn't stopped swimming since I got him! The guy at the fish store told me this was best batch he ever got and that he hadn't hardly lost any, but who knows if he was telling the truth.

Honestly my ebjd was and still is like yours. Very active and eats everything. Only parasite problem was the normal ich and it was not that bad he did fine. I have had him for 9 months are he was 1" when I got him now he is about 4" still doing great and top fish in the tank.

Don't treat him with anything unless you think he is ill medications can do more harm then good. Just keep the water extra clean and he should be fine. These fish are just weak and most die off at around 2" for no real reason. If you get past 2" you will have a fish that is just as hardy as the normal jd.

Here he is. He's not quite 2 inches so I'm not out of the woods but I plan to keep excellent care of him and my 2 oscars. I can't afford the uv sterilizer but it would be nice.
