NICE pick-up! that guy looks great, he looks like he was bred very well, doesnt seem to have any kind of beak face at all and that is hard to find with these guys (especially ones gotten from the store) def keep us updated with this guy its amazing how their colors change as they grow

for the longest time i have wanted one of these guys but havent seen one in the area in a long time. good luck with him and as always post more pics!

be sure to keep an eye out on his poo,

That just sounds wrong... although it is good advice :P

And I know that the little EBJDs are very prone to parasites, and I meant to ask what should I be looking for in his poop?

Like Sarah said, white stringy poo is a sign of internal parasites... bulging eyes is another sign...

He seems very healthy and happy, he hasn't stopped swimming since I got him! The guy at the fish store told me this was best batch he ever got and that he hadn't hardly lost any, but who knows if he was telling the truth.

This could be completely true... or could be the opposite of the truth... either way this is what they will tell you :P

If you get past 2" you will have a fish that is just as hardy as the normal jd.

In my experience they are no longer prone to parasitic infection after they reach sexual maturity, which is closer to 4"...

But I do have a few adults that are as tough and as healthy as standard Dempseys... it's just a bit of working growing them up...

Well thanks for all the advice. I've been keeping fish for years but this is my first EBJD so any more advice is appreciated. :)
