Here is my new family I am building. Hystrix are for me one of the most beautiful rays in the hobby and so often over looked due to them not displaying the patterns and colours of their cousins. This species however has other attributes which makes it very desirable not least its manageable eventual size, in many cases it can be kept in a 24" wide aquarium though I have to say 30" is far better in the longterm, I did breed them several times in 24" tanks but looking back they would have been more comfortable with that extra 6" width.
They also have the very tall mantle with the eyes set well up on the head much like a Frog, this coupled with strength and grace they effortlessley glide through the aquarium, you really need to keep the species to know what i'm talking about,no ray looks as comfortable on the swim as an Hystrix in my opinion, its a sight to behold.
I have many nice rays in my collection but these rays are still very highly prized in my Ray house. The pups from this species have to be the cutest ever, so chunky at birth and unlike many rays that change drastically in pattern from juvie to adult fish these pretty much remain the same..perfect replicas of Mom and Dad.
Anyway I hope you like my new little family, the larger one is a female I bred myself about 2.5 years ago.

I must say, your hystrix have incredible markings... Yours and proximus's have the best marked hystrix I have seen.. Many will agree too.
Keep us updated.
It's great to see my old girl hystrix is in a great new home.
Water looks crystal clear too.

They look great Richard. now hurry up and get them breeding cos I have been after one for ages :)

they look great but why suck large gravel

Are these also called Teacups at petshops? Can they mix w/ motoros same size? I've seen those at a LFS nearby, same pattern but called Teacups, and I agree w/ you, they are beautiful

Teacups usually refers to the size of a ray. There is no real teacup ray. That being said retics are often labelled as teacups.

OP your rays are beauties!
