I just purchased these two guys and was wondering What their exact name would be?

I was told they were golden dragons or polypterus palmas. I have been feeding them bloodworms and shrmp pellets.
I would like to get their name so I can take care of them as best as I could. I was out to buy mollies and couldn't fine any... decided to switch it up and buy these two guys

Look like senegals to me,nice pick ups, they will get to around 12" eventually and will eat small fish given the chance.
Any tankmates?

polypterus senegalus

+1

I have them with a pleco Gibby in a 29G. I have a 90G to move them to when needed that has blood parrots in them.

Pleco's and poly's are generally frowned on, at night if the pleco is large enough it will ambush and suck the slimecoats of your poly's...I have not had an issue with this, but numerous people have.

I paid $35 each for them... Is that a good price?

Not really, all the senagal bichirs in my area go for $10 - 15 depending on size and quality-Spud my biggest seng. is pushing 11" now and is just under a year old.

Nice senegalus bichirs. You said that u got one for 35 bucks? Judging from ur bichirs size, they seem like around 4 inches. Senegals for 35 bucks, that won't be a good deal. I got my sen for 15 bucks tops.

well that is not good. lol. But I guess since I really like them then it is ok for the price. I live in a small town 56 000 so it is hard to find anything different.

I always worry about that pleco with other fish but...
I have kept an eye on the pleco at night and have not had an issue yet. and they do have a place to go where the pleco does not fit. IF I do see a problem then I will move them to the 90G.. There is a pleco in that one too but there is more places for them to go.

I've seen the polypterus senegalus lay beside the pleco during the day with no issue yet too. Fingers crossed on the future. lol
