My new freshwater 300g setup. Whats next?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just filled my 300g tank a week ago and was wondering what I should do next to move my fish from my 55g tank. Can I dump my cichlids in or do I have to do some sort of ammonia thing? Not sure.

I am running a sump, the water drains down into tank by 2 feeds, filters through the matrix, into the refugium, into bio balls, heater then pumped back out.
Substrate is pool filter sand

Planning on rearranging rocks and driftwood, enclosing the base and top, plumbing lines for auto top off and water changes.

Also looking for any input on this setup anything that might need changing and putting socks on the in take lines in sump? Do I just grab a pair from my drawer? Whats the purpose?

Nice tank, you don't see a lot of glass 300s. I think you could move the fish out of the 55 if you move the filter cartridges into the sump at the same time you move the fish. If you did a water change every few days for the first month or so, I'm sure it would be fine.

For water changes, get a long hose at least 1" diameter that will reach a drain or out the window to the garden or lawn. Either attach your gravel vac to that or put a couple of feet of PVC pipe on the end so you have something rigid to work with.

So I took water from the 55g and the filters and put then in the new tank. So far so good all 6 of them look happy and healty, hope they arent too crowded in there. Thanks for all the input.
