hey richard, i have a question for you. i understand that gators get an average of 5' in captivity. and that gars sold in pet trade average out some what smaller than their wild counterparts. so in this case his gator will get to be almost 10'. but more around the 6-8' mark right? and this goes for my juvi longnose to, they get to 24-36" in captivity but nearly 6' in the wild. will the juvi reach around 6' ?

Who knows how big this gator would get.. We will never know. It will either die of starvation or maladaption or this guy will just dump it.

I've never seen a 6' longnose (in the wild or captivity or Museum pickle) so I doubt that in any case. Guess it is possible but I would not think so for anything but extreme circumstances. In captivity under any condition.. hell no...One will never reach that size.

thats what i thought about my longnose. and i completely agree with you about this guys gator. he is simply not thinking of the fish and only doing what he wants.

1. a gator that big taken from the wild is ridiculous to keep and expect it to adapt well.
2. he has full intention to just release it anyhow when he gets bored and has zero clue about just how wrong this is.

Not sure anything will actually help any of this though..
stupid is a part of our culture so ingrained these days that little to no actual reason or intellect can counter it.

Real pity man as I was holding out for you to be one of the good ones that could be a good Gar keeper.
You had it there for a bit and now have now dismally failed every test. (and then some)

i believe he was refering to stupidity in general, but also refering to GG. and i completely agree with richard(poly) that he has to be stupid to catch a fish and then release it back into the wild. there is already enough of this happening.

I was not calling anyone in particular stupid.. I was calling this whole freaking culture and the manner it carries it self as stupid... It seems that these days in particular there is an epidemic of stupidity in human culture. The ability to act on personal responsibility, process and use relevant information or to see the larger picture beyond "me" seems lost these days..

it's pretty simple. you catch a fish from the wild, you either take some photos and release it right away, or you take it home and eat it/keep it permanently/or kill it. you DO NOT release a fish back into the wild after it spends any appreciable amount of time in captivity. period.--
