Picked this dude up today from my LFS. bargained with the owner for great price! he is about 6" and loves feeders, and freeze dried. very stoked

it's not a gar and i think they only got up from 8-10'' in captivity!

yeah i got that. he is a Characin sub species. max size is about 8"-10". cool looking fish. because he is not a true gar species he works out better for me. one day i will get one

What is this Characin and Belonid month on the Gar forum ???? Really I tend to actually like these fish myself but they have their place and their place is not really with Gar (Lepisosteids).. Common names do not make a fish related somehow..

These are very different fish that have very different care from a Lepisosteid. They really are not lumpable by any means.
