New update on my hystrix, Stuff seem to happen with my male. He is not big, between 15 and 20cm somewhere(by eye), and the claspers are not big either, but they seem rolled? Is he really mature already? He is about 1 year old, got him at 6-7cm size 1 year ago.

Great looking hystrix. I don't think your male is mature yet, but getting close. I bought a male hystrix just over a year ago that was about 10 cm dia. A year later he is about 15 cm or so and I would say mature. He claspers really started to grow this past summer. I think it had to do with the presence of a mature female in the tank. Are your hystrix in the same tank as the sp peru?

They are great looking indeed, just as any hystrix :) These two go in a 180 gallon tank for themselfe, they are sooo much smaller then everyone in the 1200 gallon i dont dear to put them in there.. But they are a couple, bin together since they were small. I hope they are not bored of each other, im really hoping for some breeding a little later on. If they dont get much bigger then they already are, they will stay in the 180 gallon. Have autodrip on them.

So ive had my hystrix for soon to be 1,5 year now. I just love these rays. The female seems to shoot from the male now, and i cant wait what the future will bring. As you can se on the pictures something will happen, when time is there. Hopefully the female will let him do his deeds when she is ready, he surtenly already is :) they are darkening up beautifully.

I also found some pics from when they were just a couple of months old. The motoro pup in the background is newborn in the pic, and he is already bigger(or atleast same size) as the hystrix where at 2-3 months in my care. You can imagine yourselfe how small they were when recieved. The pump that hangs on the background is a fluval 4(size comparement).

Just had to add 2 pics of the tankmates, they are so beautifull.

Nice update!

Appriciated :) I know your love for these fantastic rays! how is yours doing?

Mine too Eriik.
These rays have something very special as you say, its not something that is apparent or obvious from looking at pics but once you have kept them it becomes very clear indeed.
I have always had them as part of my collection, a solid little Ray with great presence and personality.
Nice update!
