My New JD (Pics)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks guys.

I'm thinking your JD looks female to me. A closer picture would help. How big is she?

Great looking fish and tank. That glass looks so clean I could eat off it.

I use a credit card to scrape the algae when I clean the tank, lol.

About 3".

My JD looked exactly like yours when I bought him. I have to say at first glance I wanna say your JD is a female, but I'm not sure if the spangles change at all. It may be too early to tell, I'm not 100% sure. I've only had my JD for about 7 months. Here's a pic of my guy at 3" when I first got him, then at 4" and 5" in his own tank (please don't mind the poop in the first pic, it's the pleco's feeding area

Very pretty JD. Your right, it might be too soon to tell. Well I got a really good camera, my parrot Chiquita bit the lens and it was covered so I took it back and got a really good camera.

For some reason I thought my JD was a male.

If it's only 3" it could change and in fact might be a male. I'm really not sure at this point and don't want to give you bad information.

Very nice JD, they r one of my favourite cichlids

Thanks, do you have one?

Thanks for your honesty.

i think it too early to tell, there is alot of blue on the gill plates but not the normal smearing of blue like a female, im leaning female but you should know in the next month or so

i got my oscar yesterday an it came from a tank with jack dempseys with both blue smear on the gill plate an jacks without the smear an they were about that big.

I will post another pic when she gets bigger. If it is a female Im impressed, usually they are not as pretty.

When I bought my JD, he was about 2-2 1/2" and mixed in a tank with juvenile GT's. I went there to specifically buy a GT and didn't have a ton of cichlid knowledge. I wanted a male GT and walked out of there with a male JD and didn't know until about a month later. I had gotten so attached to the JD, I couldn't return him, so here we are. lol. Is your GT and JD getting along? I'd love to add a GT to my tank but I don't think the JD would have it.
