I got a royal pleco yesterday from my lfs and i put it in my quarantine tank and ive had the lights off in there to reduce the stress, but when i went to turn the light on this morning i noticed little white spots on him that i think is ich. I have raised the temp to 81 so far but i have it set for 84. I added salt and stress coat. I was going to ask if there is anything else you guys recommend me doing? I have copper but i don't really like to use it. Is copper even alright to use with plecos? Any help is appreciated because i don't know much about these fish. Thanks for your time

Here's what a guy I know does and it works

you should add an extra air stone

Day1:

raise temp to 86F (usually not a prob since all of my tanks are usually around 82-84 anyways).

add 1 Tsp of salt per 5 gals of water (I usually divide this in half, so if I have a 20 gal, I would put in 2 Tsp at one time, and then wait like 2 hours and put in another 2 TSP).

Day2:

Add the same amount of salt as Day1

add 1 teaspoon of Kordan's Rid-Ich+ per 10gals of water (again, if you have a large tank, divide dosing in half).

Day3:

Add same amount of salt and Rid-Ich

Day4:

Stop the salt

Keep dosing the Rid-Ich

Day5-8:

Dose Rid-Ich

Thanks you all. I will get An air stone in there and get some rid ich. I have a 55 gallon tank salt iy always has salt in there but i added a second dose already throughout today. Is it ok to address more salt?

For future reference, don't dump your new fish with the water into your tank. Instead, dump the bag into a net over a bucket or something (in case the fish bails) and then just introduce the fish into the tank w/o the water. NEVER add the water from the bag into your tank. Chances are good that the increased stress is what caused it so this may not have helped but ever since I started doing that (years ago) I've had FAR less issues with new fish.
