Yes the Marineland Stealth was recalled about 2 years ago for that exact reason... I've heard stories where the heater actually exploded and broke tanks. Others where whole communities were destroyed. Regardless, if you contact Marineland you may be able to file a claim and get a free heater at least. I'm not sure now it may be too late... I sent back half a dozen still working heaters and they replaced them for free... Good luck

does any one have any experience with the Jehmco.com ETCI-1 Electronic Temperature Control, 15 amp load max 120VAC input? I have been looking for a temperature controller but most I have found are really expensive.

Like said above the Stealths had a recall a while back. I know i traded in 3 or 4 of them and grabbed all Ebo Jagers.. I know they aren't perfect but i've never had an issue with them..
 
I just emailed marineland. I don't expect anything, but at least I griped about it. I guess I really need to start staying up on my equipment info. I have heard of this stuff happening, but I never expected it to happen to me......I feel like a victim...lol. All kidding aside, I am greatful I didn't lose my whole tank.

man that stinks. How many do you have left? Are they barys or hemis? I have barys and they seem to be pretty tough fish. I bet they will bounce back. Just watch for ich. Ich likes to show up after temperature stress.
 
I still have 3, and they are hemiancistrus. They look pretty good so far, they are eating well and definetly still active. I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled for ick. Thanks for the heads up.

Some folks in my fish club swear by them. But then again, one person has a 225 gallon tank of expensive discus, so they weren't really shocked by the price of the controller.
 
I'm definitely going to get a controller, I don't want this to happen again. I just gotta wait for payday!!
