Mine seems extremly skittish. Any way to calm him down? He is fine until I get close to the tank. He seems skittish even when he attacks his food.

Adding a hiding place for him would probably help. And let him see you more often and longer so he could start recognizing you. My jar was skittish too when small. It will get better though. Just make sure he can't escape the tank.

arodini I agree about a secure top, but I think that arowanas cower in a dark corner or jump, rather than use a hiding place when theyre scared- also, any hiding spots seem to be obstacles that they could run into and injure themselves-
I have a bunch of drifwood stacked. So there is plenty of hiding spots. He doesn't use them though only my plecos. Instead He would go to the far lower corner and chill. Yes I have no cracks open. My 26 inch black aro got out with no holes and weighted tops. Go figure. Too much muscle power.
david the aro that you lost by jumping was a 26" black? that bites- I had a 24" jar that jumped out of my pond- I have a waist high greenhouse over it now- it keeps the heat and an almost 30" silver in- Im trying to get his eyes back up- I got him with terrible DE

I think the lei is looking alot better, so he might get another shot in the community- if theres a problem, I might pull the offender out this time and see if the lei hangs with the others
