You can buy heater guards over here off the shelf.

If you cannot buy one then buy some pipe and drill lots of holes in it and fit it over the heater element.

You MUST cover the heater.
 
^^^^ yup. honestly i could not find heater guards other than the ones on ebay and they were not for my heater. I wanted black so i bought black well pipe from home depot which is a type of pvc and drilled a ton of holes in it and slide it over. I ended up black zip tieing it to the suction cups that come with the heaters to support it off the glass. Need to do it tho i mean ASAP. Search up heater burns. It can be real bad from wut ive seen on here.

Thanks both for the very good advice. In fact right after your post, the ray's right eyes skin area got about 5mm in diameter skin going off.

I asked an expert ray keeper, he said it is heater burn. Tmr, I will go and get a new design Rena heater with a guard. See this pic to verify. Hope it is not any bacteria infection that can turn things upside down.

looks like a burn, i learned the hard way as well. They take a lil longer to heal than cuts ime
