I agree I have 2 of these. Must feed often and require a very grueling changing regimen. Extremely high maintenance be prepared for aggression if needs are not met on demand! You can keep them in a 5'X3' to start out but expect them to take over your personal 6'X5'. If cared for properly and given enough food and room to grow you should then release them into the wild! They will become too free willed to contain and will need a much much bigger pond!
Don't worry about all the upkeep though once everything settles in a routine you will be more then qualified and an expert on the matter and it will all prove to be more then worth it!

I forgot to mention that I hope you have a large pond or tank. These guys get huge and it will most likely outlive you. Good thing you picked up a male, the females of this species will drive you crazy!

LOLOLOLOLOL! I can not tell you how entertaining these responses are. There is some of the best fish humor I have ever encountered in this thread. You even had the rest of my family (wife included) laughing as I read them yesterday when we all met up for a late lunch. You guys are really awesome.
Thanks for the congratulations. This really has been my month: my wife had our son; my offer on the house my wive wants was accepted; and I got an awesome sump set-up for my 180. The last one is probably the least significant, but still brings me a bit of joy. You guys are the icing on the cake.
I probably won't start a grow-out thread on this one, but I may sneak in a pic or two every now and then.
