The land of the pine
I went fishing for chubs and crayfish as a cleanup crew/ pickerel food in the local creek yesterday and caught this awesome guy. He seems pretty big for a madtom but im 99.99 percent sure hes a madtom and not a bullhead. He is about 4 and a half inches long. Im hoping he dosent get eaten by my pickerel. I dont think he will though because he stays at the bottom in his little log unless you turn out the lights. He already ate a piece of frozen silverside.0624132052.jpg I know this is a crappy picture but its all i can get of him. Anyone know what kind of madtom he is?

Can't tell from that pic. Try to get a side shot.

I didn't think stone cats occurred in Central North Carolina. I've been trying to get better pics but he is in a little log cave now so you can't really see him. He is very dark. His tail is also lined with black.

Are madtoms some kind of "dwarf" catfish?

Notorus flavus,Stone Cat Madtom Their range extends into the eastern part on NC. Crappiekeepr without seeing a side view it will be hard to tell what you have.
