my new male red devil/midas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not sure how big they are now, but you're definately going to have to move them to a larger tank as they grow. 30 gallons just is not big enough. I doubt even a 55g will work long term. Granted, temperment varies by individual, but these are very aggressive fish. My adult RDs can't even coexist peacefully in an 84g.

You need AT LEAST a 75g for a male midas, they will hit 10" at least, by one year. A female will get about 10" total, foa 55 is fine for life. But, a 10,12,13, up to 16" fish, will NOT work in a 55, let a lone a thirty. With a mate? Goodluck.

My 7" male killed a 9" female in a 90g tank.

Fr the good of the fish, upgrade :)

Beautiful red devil male... just get one of those divider screens you can put down the middle of the tank incase they start to fight and then they will have a chance to see each other and get familiar without hurting each other, it worked for me.,, except that it turned out both were males.. funny because the female looking red devil had no hump on her head until she turned into a he next to the other guy..the hump grew almost instantly.. did anyone ever here of this?

yeah i am soon upgrading for the summer i will be placing them in a pond that i am building....and then i will get a larger tank when the summer ends....

Looking forward to hearing more about them..wow a pond... that is great! We have a goldfish pond, never thought about a red devil pond... wow will they grow.. as long as no other animals can get to them... we have a tough time keeping frogs out..
