Couple quick shots of the leaves developing...

This particular plant is growing MUCH quicker than the others, but is also the only one showing signs of rot... Should I try to trim this off?

Hey nice going! Would you mind if I link these pictures as quotes?

I wouldn't worry about that rot there unless the tissue is actually mushy and spreading. From here it looks more like just dead tissue.

We should get some mangrove leather fern and Cryptocoryne ciliata for you and you can have a real mangrove swamp in your tank.

Thanks hydrophyte! And not at all, you can link/use away.

Ok cool, its actually been there for a while with only minor spreading at most. I assume that the thick popule/leaves will fall away as the real leaves develop?

That'd be awesome! I just googled Cryptocoryne ciliata... SO COOL! Have you ever gotten it to "flower" with those red flame looking flowers?

Yeah I sure did here is one of the spathes that I got.

They smell just like pumpkins.

Here is the established plant in the planter.

Like mangroves C. ciliata can grow in brackish water. It is very different form other kinds of crypts. The leaves are leathery and you can grow them very well in an ope-top tank; most other crypts need very high humidity to grow emersed in a riparium.

Nice!!

Hey did you see my new journal for the brackish riparium that I am working on?

I am going to keep it on the less-salty side. It will be interesting to see how these mangrove plants actually do in the brackish water.
