My new monsters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The store pic was just one I pulled from Google. Mainly because they looked less green in the store. It was the closest I could find. First cichla for me, so I'm on a bit of a learning curve.

Who ever thinks these are azuls needs to re-look the ID sticky. These are nothing like Cichla Piquitti...azuls. They have none of the same traits. The only thing they have in common is the eye spot every cichla has on its tail. These are not azuls. Snookn21 has azuls now at $30ea. Real ones. It pays to just buy bass from reputable sources...Jeff Rapps, Mark at Discus Orgins to name a couple.

The pic you posted of your bass is NOT an azul. Stressed or not.

Inclined to agree

So what do you guys think they are?

I've raised 3 different batch of azul, stressed or not, I never experience my azul went such that appearance, especially at size 3"-4". Pretty easy to recognize it.
Especially its body length (proportion), jaw, and body marking.
Just like at first, I would say C. monoculus

Honestly I'm not sure. I was staring at fish, dodging heard of shopping people, and keeping track of two kids.

maybe u can take a look in the tank and see if the remaining ones have 5 bars? im not sure about ur fish shops return policy or exchange but its no harm trying to negotiate with them as u paid for a fish and got a different species.

I took the last two they had. I am curious if there will be two more "azuls" in the tank when I go back tomorrow.

One last azul pic I found. This one only has 3 bars. Just want to be sure before I go raise hell at the store. Do stores keep shipment invoices? I might ask to see it. The store was pet kingdom in San Diego.
