I finally have some Nicaraguan Cichlids! I am very excited. introduced them to my tank on Friday after they spent two days in a box (they missed their connecting flight). It has been six days and they are eating like pigs and are coloring up well.

I have 4 at a little over 2". I believe 1 male and 3 females or possibly 2 males and 2 females not sure yet. share a 75 gallon with a red spotted severum, green severum, a platinum honduran red point and a L200.
The tank is filtered by a marineland c-360 and Aqueon Quietflow 55/75 (it isn't very quiet).

I know there are different variants I hope these are the ones that get the blue faces but I guess time will tell. Unless someone know away of telling them apart. I don't see the pink bellies so I think I have the right ones.

These are quick little buggers and already associate me with food so it was hard to get a side shot.

Nice dude looks like they will have plenty of space to grow in there. I know virtually nothing about them except they can breed with convicts and likely hrp. Hopefully they color up to your liking, either way I don't think you'll be too disappointed.

Your scape looks pretty sick, FTS? Do you find the quietflow to have varying sound? Mine currently changes, as often as the day it seems. Sometimes it's not quiet at all and others it's quite acceptable.

Thanks I don't have a current FTS but this is what is looked like before I changed it around last week. I used all the same material except I got rid of the big fake plant in the corner. I moved the gray rocks to the center and the drift wood to the right side of the tank. It looks more open now. I will get a FTS soon.

I am aware of them being able to hybrid with the HRP I am hoping it doesn't happen. I don't have room for any breeding so I will separate if necessary.

I have only had the Aqueon filter about 2 weeks. I haven't noticed change in sound. I turn it off at night due to the noise so it isn't constantly running.

Nice dude, I think it probably looks even better. I would imagine they won't interbreed if they have other nics around, only exception I could imagine is if the hrp is a dominant beast, even then probably not. If your not running it at night I would take all the bio out and put a filter sock in it or something, just make it a mech machine.

That is what I did but I left the bio part in for noise reduction it is louder with out it.

Lovely fish and very underrated for some reason. I have a juvie too. They really don't get on with each other when young IME. How do yours get on?

They are getting along well for the most part. There is a larger male that does a bit of chasing but nothing to serious. He will chase everyone away and then they will all be hanging out together. Definetly not a constant harassing like convicts. I am hoping to get a nice female or a pair out of the group. So I will be willing to sell off any trouble makers.

I don't know why they aren't more popular the colors are fantastic I cant think of another fish that has better colors. They are also on the lower end of the aggression scale. Win and win in my book.

Severums are another favorite of mine and I often say they get no love in the community.

Males have spots on the unpaired fins (dorsal and anal) as below

females don't (upper and lower, male mid and slight more in the background

females get the orange belly when mature, and ready to spawn (at least in my case).

I have one with the spots 100% and another that shows light patterning I can't tell if he/she has spots coming in or not. Two aren't showing any signs of spots at all.

As requested my full tank shot. Cell phone pics so lighting is way off. All plants area live (Anubius Coffeefolia and Short amazon swords)
