To make the IT stable, there are few ways to try.

a) Lower nitrate level with regular WC
b) Get fierce fishes like oscars, pb.
c) Strong light
d) Salt

All the above, I had tried and work fine for me. You can give a shot.:)

Strong light? I'll have to try that.. I've always been told dim light.

Yea strong light is the opposite of what you want to do. I currently have a 48" single bright beamswork on my 6' tank and I'm looking for something dimmer.

i use a 48" LED for moonlight and a 12" LED for white light and I turn on both during the day for a nice deep water look with a blue tint on the fish and turn off the white LED to just have the moonlight in the evening then turn off the moonlight when i go to bed

IT stability is a mystery which is why ST/CT are so much more desirable because they are mostly stable 24/7 and bold and when they aren't they still look nice

I have yet to acquire an IT that is stable 24/7, but often time owners claim their IT are stable 24/7 when selling so you figure what causes the discrepancy :)

IT will always be the least desirable among the gold dats because of instability and skittishness

Yeah I noticed that strong light seems to stress them out or something which is why I asked why he recommended strong lighting. Anymore advice or tips on what I can do to make sure my datnoid lives happy and healthy would be appreciated!

I have 2 it's that are 100% stable. I'm lucky i guess

haha you are lucky! How big are they? Something I noticed at fish stores is that the bigger datnoids seem to be less stable than the smaller datnoids but maybe I'm crazy. It sort of got me thinking that maybe if you grow out a datnoid from a small size instead of buying it already big that it will have a better chance at staying stable.

wow nice stable ITs! There has to be some sort of reason why some datnoids are always stable and some are never. It must be the biggest mystery of keeping datnoids haha
