Btw: does anyone know what type of lugubris pikes these are? I'm getting conflicting info when I search online.

Funny you should ask. They were eating live. I finally broke them YESTERDAY and they are pounding frozen bloodworms now. It was a battle of wills, but I feel like a good fishkeeper again. It has been aboutt a month since I got them.

Hi everyone. SO the pikes are in their forever home...1100g. The male has bitten the female on the eye and mouth pretty bad. She was hiding in the floating plants but is eating and back to her normal self. Today, both of them are flashing their gill curtains at one another. Can anyone tell me what this behavior is? The male is getting more aggressive to the other tankmates but nothing too severe.

Sounds like pre spawning behavior. Put in large pieces of wood and stack them so that the pair can make a home underneath them. When I bred my cincta they spanned on the underside of a large piece of wood. From various sources I've read, they are found protecting best on the underside of wood as well.

Put enough cover for their tankmates to hide in. My Lents and cincta would pin their tankmates to a corner and beat the crap outta them.

Good luck! I'm excited for you.

Oh no! That's not exactly what i'm trying to do with the tank; it's more of a gentle giant community. There are large pieces of driftwood and round river stones in the tank already. Well, I guess we will see what happens. My only concern is that the male pike gets too aggressive and kills the female. I would love to post pics but it takes forever on my phone.
