My New Pike..... ID please?

This is my new pike. It was labeled a black stripe pike. I hope I got a good deal because I paid $20. That is the most I have ever paid for a fish. He has a little bit of ich but that should be cleared up in no time. Sorry about the pic quality he is still in the bag.

I could be wrong, but I think you found yourself a pretty rare pike (atleast in the trade). I think it is a Crenicichla ternetzi. Theres not much info I can find on this fish but this might help. www.geocities.com/NapaValley/5491/ternetzipage.html

looks like a juvenile venezuela to me. How big is it right now? about 3-4"?

Not really....looks more like a Crenicichla johanna......95% sure its a johanna....and def. not Crenicichla ternetzi.....notice the lack of the ocelli at the base of the caudual? Key indicator that its johanna...

Its a Johanna?! Wow I guess I got ripped off. Well I guess it is a really good looking johanna. Best one I have ever seen at least.

Aye, its a good lookin johanna indeed. There are some variants of johannas that would make your jaw drop. I wouldn't say you got ripped off, they are still great pikes!

Johannas don't have the snakeskin like markings on their head though do they? The tag on the inside where I could not see it said it was a strigata. Could it just be a good looking hybrid? And yes it is about 3". Thanks guys

Def. not strigata...and as far as i know there are no hybrid pikes...especially not of Lugubris. Its def. a johanna bro...

yeah they do have the markings til they get older. Is the face red? the one I gave to ras started turning red before it died, it was about 7".
20 is decent for that size Johanna. Pike prices have gone up from last yr. Someone told me its been harder to find em and catch em, especially small ones.
