they are more trouble than the cool factor they give.

They are so darn cool when they are working right....

They sure can give a dull looking filter a "WOW!" factor.

If a guy could come up with a way to clean the water good enough I think that a spinner on top of the filter would be the coolest filterthingy a guy could hope to own.

Yes, a drip tray is more trouble free, but even the term "Drip Tray" is so dull.
No kid is ever going to ask to see your filter's drip tray.

But a big spinner as seen in the photos here? Ahh, now that would be something people might like to see working..
(In fact I would be tempted to toss a few lights inside the filter to show it off)

that is sweet man.
BRILLIANT.
where di you find it?

I bet you just go crazy when they give out shiny new coins at the bank huh? :D

Mount some LEDs on it!

Waiting to see this one in action too, and my LFS sells the bio-balls for $1.99ea (seeded) :nilly:

Well if youve got the spray bar spinning might as well hook a gear and something else on top! How about one of those weathervane roadrunners with the spinning legs, or little wooden dancing guys like the fancy cuckoo clocks! Then all youd need to do is hook up a sountrack!

ok ...now I gotta get a video of it in action.
I've used these for saltwater tanks without good prefiltration and they suck because they clog up quickly. But I have mine running a big prefilter sponge on the pump intake plus then it goes through a big laguna pond cannister filter before it goes to the spinning arm and its in a freshwater pond so no clogging issues whatsoever. The arm spins about 1.5 times per second and yeah ....it does look kinda awesome.
I'm overseas at the moment but I'll take a video when i get back to town.

I used to make these spinning arms. You need to modify a PVC join and add a teflon ring to act as bearings. Anyone interested can send me a PM.
