kenya tree looks good but after a while you will get tired of them. they grow like weeds!

have you thought about neon Green Star Polyps? I know they grow like crazy too but they look better than kenya trees IMO...

got them. and your right... they do grow like crazy...

only want a kenya tree for a bit of variety. all my corals are polyps, so i would like something a little more substantial in the tank, and something for the hawkfish to sit on.

aah...then I guess it would be good...hawkfish chillin on the kenya..that would be a pretty good sight!

if you got a big red gorgonian (dead or alive) or some big SPS he'd chill out on that fo' real :D

i want both of them, but im running 50w of T8. both would be doomed in my tank. no pennies for upgrading my lighting, hence the low light corals.

id want a bigger tank first anyway. all my pennies go there first

and if i find a dead red gorgonian, algae would grow on it and that means id have to clean it. :)

would look killer though...

gorgs are primarily filter feeders.. good flow and buttloads of food is about all you need

but yeah i feel ya on the SPS... ever consider using fake? the nems and soft corals look like jokes but the hard stuff is alright

i have but after the initial cost of buying good looking fake corals, as some like you said do look terrible, i probably wont be that far off a new lighting system. it wont be up to the MH level, but i think a 4x 39w T5 over tank unit on a 16" deep tank is gonna pump out a fair bit of light

it may let me keep some LPS corals? maybe...

Does the longnose swim around and perch on stuff? How is yours/ what do you feed it? I am thinking of getting one in the future as long as there pretty easy to take care of!!! and would it do okay in a 30 gallon???

its fine, settled in well.

yeah its pretty active for what is essentially an ambush feeder. every time i go near the tank it goes nuts... even though its only been in the tank for less than a week.

i feed it frozen marine mix cubes from my lfs. basically chopped molluscs, brine ect. it feeds fine. no problem.

i have mine in a 30gal. the largest wild caught specimen ever recorded was 5.1". its a cool fish. but it has a big mouth. smaller animals will be classed as food.

oh certainly...

if the lights are comming yeah just wait. i figured if you were going for like a minimalist reef or something.. IDK.. ive been feeling crazy lately:nilly:

nah. i just dont wanna spend out too much money on a tank that i might be replacing with a bigger setup in the next few months. cant afford to run both. so i can use the filtration and powerheads from this one. and i can use the light units to run two 30w actinics (instead of 25 actinic, 25 white) as well as the lighting and filtration that comes with the new tank.

well thats the plan...
