My new red aro

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Under my care for a week only as after I got him I went overseas for a week.

Daytime exposed to some natural sunlight and night time, will on the led light either red or purple colour.

Fed him mostly superworms gutload with carrots

Surprised to see there is quite a difference from top view. But this could also partly be due to stress during transporting when I first received him

May also be because left pic was taken night time with white light while right pic was taken today under sunlight

Looks pretty gold to me bro but amazing fish I prefer gold over red any day

Did not notice your message previously, yes it more gold in the pic... but is actually more lemon yellow with a little orange tint... hopefully this will turn red the next 1 or 2 years... if all goes well, it should turn to orange then red

A chilli red will take about 6 years to turn red but also dependent on genes of course

This is a pic of another red taken at my LFS 2 days ago

Absolutely stunning bro.

I could look at your aro all day

Looking great Galantspeedz! I'm sure it'll do nothing except color up more and more under your good care.

Btw, if you're going to do any tanning, for lights you might consider something like these (newish) Xian Long submersibles with UVA/UVB. Not personally sure if they really work as they claim, but unlike similar products they say it'll help color up your fish but without affecting the water color and making everything look red/purple. I don't know if they make a non UVA/UVB version which does the same thing (not color water).

But then maybe you won't even do any tanning, I'm kind of agreed with those who say it's stressful for fish, esp. if done too much, and anyway your tank gets some natural sun light, that should be enough.

I did do some reading on tanning.. and I not really a fan of it because the light is actually placed at the side and middle of tank rather than the top..... imagine the light shining into your eyes for 12 hrs a day...

So what I do is just get some LED lights from China and placed at top of tank... if it helps, it helps... if not, is ok. Anyway I needed new lights and it was cheap Haha

No matter what is done I always believe genes is the most important factor.....

+1 on tanning, which is also why so far I've taken the route of Xbacks so as to not have to deal with the question -- though with Xbacks of course there's the question of WTT or not. In any case yes for sure good genes rule all.

I use very similar Chinese LED's on my Kamfa's tank (mostly just white, and sometimes dark orange before sleeping), they work just fine and are good value for money imo (though one did change tint somewhat after about 1.5 years). The remote control comes in handy too.
