My new Rotkeil Severum (Red Head) - Male or Female? Help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks! you think thats the new one is a female?
and do you think they will get along with festivums, keyhole chiclids, altispinosa chiclids, two angel fish and one chocolate chiclid (temporalis) ?

by the way, i dont really know from where they were ordered from, but the price was 100$ per one. i got them for 85$ because i shop there a lot. a lot... :)

thanks!

I would guess that the second one is female. What size tank are you keeping all of those fish in?

I would say maybe not then. I have my breeding pair in a 90 Gallon 48" tank and wish I had a longer tank. Once breeding behavior starts, other fish are going to die if you do not have room. I cannot imagine keeping all those fish even in the 106 with long term success if any of them start breeding. Sorry man. I would say the 53g is too small even for the pair of Rotkeils

53 is the temp tank, just to see that everything is OK for week or two.
if they won't breed, would they get along with those fish?
i can return all the other fish to the store once i see they want to breed...

i would get rid of the keyholes and altispinosa and then see how it goes from there, but yeah fish take some time to bond it isnt always an instant thing just because they are of opposite sexes. i would just keep them divided for now and then add them to the large tank at the same time and you shouldnt have any problems GOOD LUCK

also i would get rid of the chocolate before i got rid of the angels, angels and sevs in a tank look very nice!! aggression wise it really just depends on the pair, some are super aggressive when breeding while others just protect their corner and are happy as long as the other fish respect that so its just a game of wait and see and remove other fish as problems arise

getting rid of the chocolate would be very hard for me... i must do that? they won't get along? :(

do you think they can hurt the keyholes and the altispinosa even if they won't pair up?

and what about these live plants? they will eat them?

thanks!
