My New Royal Python

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That should do for a full grown male. Its nice to allow them to be able to stretch out if they wish, but they would much prefer to be able to feel secure. Too much space can actually be a bad thing and cause stress. Full grown, your looking at maybe a 6 foot snake around 2,500-3,000 grams, although I have seen fat ones over 4,000(probably big females). I like 55 g or 40 gal breeders, but even a 30 gal could work. Food for thought, it is easier to maintain ideal conditions in containers other than normal glass aquariums. Specifically, ideal humidity is typically the most challenging to maintain, but royals are not as difficult as most species.

Sounds good, it will be goin into a wooden vivarium not a fishtank as they let quite alot of heat out, any other pointers you can give me?? like is it true not ment to handle them too much?? and how would i control humidity in the tank?? spray bottle??

thanks

Got my ball for xmas when I was 8yrs and had him til I was 26yrs when he died, theyre great pets.

yep, that sounds like a good old ball.

A spray bottle works and is simple. The wooden tank sounds good, I plan to build a wooden rack system for mine soon. A lot of people recommend only handling them 10-15 minutes a day. Handling too much can create stress to an animal. It is good to handle them to get them used to the idea. It will also make them easier to handle and less shy/skiddish. The more you handle them, the less likely they are to simply ball up and hide. Once a snake gets used to handling, you can handle them for longer periods of time without stressing them out. The ones that Ive owned(and worked with) the longest enjoy coming out and being held for extended periods of time. I handle some of my snakes for up to a few hours once they get used to it and are not stressed by it. After feeding them, I try not to handle the snake for a few days. It will stress them out a bit to be handled right away on a full stomach. If they get too stressed out right after feeding, they may even regurgetate the meal.

nice set-up, wish I had one like that

there not very expensive to be honest go buy one :)

fish tanks are much more expensive!!

when they both get larger i plan to build my own vivarium to house them, then you will see true craftsmanship :)
